Last year’s Chili Cook-Off was a hot one, so I bet you indulged in a frozen Granita drink at some point during the event. The Hawley family knows their flavors so we are lucky to literally have their taste buds behind the Granita booth. And this year 3 out of 4 Hawleys will be volunteering at the event. I interviewed Stacey Hawley to learn about her family’s dedication to the Roosevelt community and their impeccably good taste.
How many years have you and your family been part of the Roosevelt parent community?
Stacey: This is our seventh year at Roosevelt.
Tell us about your participation in the CCO in years past.
Stacey: Aside from CCO donations, we have tried to volunteer every year in some way and this year our 6th grader, Madeline will be volunteering.
For the past four years, we have sponsored and run the Granita booth. This year we will do the same. It doesn’t matter if the weather is hot or cold, the Granitas are a big hit. This year we have made a new formula just for CCO. The new Granitas are sweetened wtih 100% agave, and made with natural colors and flavors. We will offer two flavors: Limeade and Rootbeer. Tastes tests indicate that the Rootbeer will be a big hit. Although, the mixologists at home tell me that a blend of the two is very tasty as well!
What are the names, grades and teacher names of your children?
Stacey: Joey is in 3rd with Mrs. Janc and Mrs. Yanez-Vierra. Madeline attended Roosevelt K-5 and is now in 6th grade at BIS.
What do you two do professionally when you’re not volunteering at Roosevelt?
Stacey: Scott owns a company in Brisbane that makes cocktail mixes and syrups for the food industry. Stacey sells flavors for a Los Angeles flavor manufacturer. Scott and Stacey are also partners in a new restaurant opening in the Mission this January.

What is your favorite part of CCO?
Stacey: The Roosevelt community is our favorite part of CCO. Our children have made many lifelong friends at Roosevelt and so have we. There is no better way to spend a day then with good friends and for a great cause.
What’s the best thing about being a part of the Roosevelt community?
Stacey: From the moment we stepped on the campus of Roosevelt, we were hooked. We were confidant that our children had a safe, loving place to spend their grammar school years. The Roosevelt community would not be what it is today without its fearless leader, Mr. Hills. Along with Mr. Hills the teachers, staff, and parents of Roosevelt add to the warmth of this great community.
